Child Safeguarding for Designated Safeguarding Leads ‘DSL’s

Training Cost: £10 per person

Length: Half day

All faith centres should have a designated safeguarding lead ‘DSL’ and deputy. It is good practice to have both male and female representation.

The aim of the course is to develop the knowledge and skills of the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) for faith institutions. As the DSL, you will learn what your role is and how to carry out your duties. Before attending this course, you should have attended a Safeguarding (awareness) course.

By the end of this half-day course, you will understand:

  • The role of the DSL
  • The challenges for a DSL
  • How to conduct a safeguarding risk assessment
  • Challenges and solutions specific to faith centres that provide supplementary religious education
  • Dealing with allegations of abuse, including against teachers and others in a position of trust
  • The referral procedure to local and statutory authorities

Upon completion, participants will receive a certificate and course notes

“As a potential Designated Safeguarding Lead person, I believe I needed this safeguarding training to be in the best position to fulfill my duties as a Designated Safeguarding Lead, as well as knowing how to best protect our children from all types of harm and abuse”
